The health and safety of our Forum Community and Team Members has always been and will continue to be our top priority as we take a phased approached to the reopening of our Forum facilities and programs.

With the reopening will come some adjustments as to how and when you can access the facilities, and we appreciate your patience, understanding and support as this reopening phase begins.

In line with the NSW Government reopening roadmap, we will be opening our doors for eligible members and those in the community who have received their second vaccination. Only fully vaccinated adults 16 + are eligible to

These are the strict requirements that our business is required to follow under the Public Health Order for fitness facilities, gyms and indoor recreation facilities.

These include:

  • Fully vaccinated for adults 16+
  • One person per 4 sqm
  • Group Fitness Classes capped at 20 people per class
  • Masks are mandatory at all times
  • The Heart Art Café will not open initially however plans to open soon also.


It is important to remember that this is the first phase in reopening under the NSW Government COVID-19 roadmap.   We have always taken a measured, safety-first approach to COVID-19, and we will continue to monitor new and emerging information as it is released by the NSW Government, NSW Health and the University of Newcastle.

In order to comply with the NSW Roadmap and Public Health Orders we will open on reduced trading hours for the week Monday 25 October until Sunday 31 October 2021 inclusive:

Be reminded these changes ensure that The Forum is operating withing its COVID Safe Framework and safety standards to preserve your safety, and the safety of our staff and community, while using our facilities.

On reopening we will be adhering the following safety measures:

  • Fully vaccinated for adults 16+
  • One person per 4 sqm
  • Masks are mandatory at all times
  • Group fitness classes capped at 20 participants (you must still book through the Forum App, selecting in club classes as online will also continue to be available)
  • Our water fountains are not in use, so bring a full bottle of water.

You can view our Forum Safety Standards and COVID Safe Framework on our website, and we encourage you to familiarise yourself with the new safety standards before returning to the clubs.

We will have zero tolerance for the safety standards not being followed. Behaviour that is abusive, aggressive or puts our staff and community at risk will NOT be tolerated.

Customers and members NOT following The Forum Safety Standards will be asked to leave and may have their access denied in the future.

Anyone aged 16 or over will need to be fully vaccinated (or have an exemption) to enter our facilities. Proof will be required upon entry on your first visit back to The Forum.

Please allow a little extra time on your first visit for the checking of all documents required to enter our facility.

Penalties may apply for falsifying any proof of vaccination documents or information.


To access the Group Fitness classes, you will need to continue to book in advance as pre-lockdown.

Bookings are made via The Forum App which can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Play.


We know it’s been a challenging time and we appreciate how hard this has been for all our members.  If you are unable to return to The Forum under the NSW Public Health Order, you can apply a freeze (suspension) to your membership through the member portal.

For those members who won’t be returning to the club immediately or prefer to keep training at home, our livestreaming classes will continue to keep you moving. These will run in tandem with classes in-club.

Newcastle University Sport – The Forum is a registered COVID Safe business.

Newcastle University Sport is taking a proactive role in in the development of a centralized and consistent COVID Safety plan. The purpose of this plan is to ensure all elements of its operations and associated entities are ready to recommence operations in a safe, responsible and low risk manner once the risks arising from COVID-19 are mitigated as far as reasonably practicable.

The NUsport COVID safety Plan has been developed in conjunction with the NUsport Senior executive, Chief Executive Officer, COVID-19 Safety Coordinator’s and partners within University of Newcastle.

The plan makes consideration for:

  • The 3-step framework for a COVIDSafe Australia
  • National COVID-19 safe workplace principles
  • Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC)
  • The AIS Framework for Rebooting Sport in a COVID-19
  • Environment (AIS Framework)
  • National Cabinet Principles for Resumption of Sport and Recreation Activities.

Increased Cleaning

  • Our Team Members are actively enforcing the COVID Safety Plan.
  • Our Team members are conducting ongoing cleaning within the venue during your visit. Safe Work Australia Guidelines are adhered to with all cleaning procedures.

Forum Safety Standards

  • All Team Members have completed the Department of Health COVID-19 Infection Control Training.
  • Hygiene Marshal.
  • Sweat towels are compulsory.
  • Mandatory Services NSW QR Code check in.
  • Masks are mandatory.

Social Distancing

  • All members and staff will adhere to 1.5 metres distancing at all times.
  • Our team will actively support this practise.

You can further assist our team and your fellow community members stay safe by adhering to The Forum 's strict Safety Standards and the following guidelines.

All NUsport operations are operating within alignment of NSW Government Public Health Orders and Restrictions.


  • Masks are mandatory at all times, including while exercising, swimming is the only exemption (children under 12 exempt). You may remove your mask to eat / drink, or while showering.
  • Service NSW QR code check in and check out is mandatory.
  • Stay home if you are unwell and currently experiencing any cold or flu-like symptoms or have been to any NSW COVID-19 case locations identified in the last 14 days.
  • Adhere to NSW Government Public Health Orders and Restrictions.
  • Adhere to NUsport's strict COVID Safety Plan when in the venue.
  • Adhere to Social Distancing restrictions. You must stay 1.5 metres apart from our Team and fellow members. Follow the directions of our Team Members at all time.
  • Practice good hand hygiene. Wash your hands regularly, either with soap and water or hand sanitiser. Apply hand sanitiser on arrival and exit of the venue. We encourage you to carry and use your own personal hand sanitiser while in the venue.
  • Sweat towels are compulsory. Use a clean sweat towel for each session. We recommend you use one as a barrier on the equipment and one to towel perspiration while exercising.
  • Clean and disinfect your equipment before and after use. Cleaning stations are available with high-grade disinfectant and paper towel.
  • Follow the strict COVID Safe directions for entering and exiting the venue. Team Members will be providing directions and adhere to signage throughout the venue.
  • Adhere to the strict booking system for Group Fitness classes.
  • Exit the venue at the conclusion of your activity. Please do not loiter within the venue.
  • Follow the direction of our Team Members at all times.

Outdoor Training

  • Wear appropriate clothing suitable for the elements.

Group Fitness

  • Classes are capped at 20 participants.
  • Classes require bookings through The Forum app.
  • Adhere to social distancing restrictions. You must stay 1.5m apart.


  • Train at a safe distance by using the markings set out within the gym to complete your work out.
  • No equipment is to be moved, excluding functional equipment.
  • Treat the gym space with respect.
  • Follow the 30-minute time limit on all cardio machines and squat racks.
  • Only use equipment which is available. Do not use equipment which has been sectioned off.
  • No sharing of equipment. During this time super setting and spotting is NOT permitted.
  • Please see the Gym Instructor to set up a safe training station to perform your workout.
  • Notify a Team Member of any equipment damages, repairs or members not following The Forum’s Safety Standards.
  • Covered shoes are always required. No bare feet or socks permitted for workouts.
  • Return all equipment after use.
